RICHARD ONEY practices primarily in the area of intellectual property and technology. This includes preparation and prosecution of U.S. and international patent applications, intellectual property acquisition, transfer and licensing, due diligence review, infringement and validity analysis, and litigation.  He has significant experience in copyright, trademark, trade secret, unfair competition, and Internet matters, including domestic and international licensing and protection of software technology.  His technical experience is focused in the electrical and electronic arts, including software, computers and semiconductor devices. The patent law experience includes preparation and prosecution of patent applications in those industries as well as in Internet and electronic commerce, business methods, audio, communications, sporting goods and mechanical inventions. Clients range from publicly-held companies to emerging start-ups to individuals.

His litigation experience includes numerous technology and intellectual property matters, including patent, copyright, trade secret, domain name and licensing matters involving software, electronics, medical, and pharmaceutical. He successfully litigated one of the first domain name dispute cases decided on the merits in the United States as well as a case of first impression on perfection of a security interest in licenses of copyrighted software. Before beginning the practice of law, Mr. Oney was an electrical engineer with Motorola.
