Contingency Fees

Before you hire an attorney for your personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit, review with them their contingency fee policy. Some legal firms will accept a case on contingency, meaning they’ll be paid a percentage of your financial award. Each state has its own laws and ethical standards for charging and collecting attorney fees, including contingencies.

Statute of Limitations for Personal Injury, Wrongful Death

Each state has its own limits for criminal, personal injury and wrongful death cases. For example, many states allow a two-year limit between the time an event occurs and the time legal action arises. Your attorney will help you evaluate the statute of limitations, as there may be exceptions in cases that involve product liability.
